The red grape variety is a new cross between Madeleine Angevine x Précoce de Malingre according to DNA analyses published in 2007. Synonyms are Early Céline, Madeleine de Céline and Madlen Selin. The cross was made in France in 1880 by the private breeder Paul Giraud. It is used in many countries as table grape. No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
