Cylindrocarpon root rot (Cylindrocarpon root rot) is a fungal disease of grapevines that is widespread throughout the world. However, it should not be confused with other root diseases such as black foot disease. It was first described in the early 20th century. The disease occurs mainly in Europe, North America and Australia and is spreading increasingly due to unfavourable soil conditions and monocultures.
Cylindrocarpon root rot is caused by several species of fungi of the genus Cylindrocarpon. These fungi penetrate the root system through wounds, often favoured by soil compaction and waterlogging. The disease develops particularly strongly in cool temperatures in moist soil with poor drainage.
There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
