The red grape variety is a new breed between Băbească Neagră x Cabernet Sauvignon. DNA analyses carried out in 2013 revealed that the Fetească Neagră variety given as the father variety in the breeding list was incorrect. The cross was made in Romania by grower Gh. Popescu, M. Baditescu and M. Oslobeanu. It is cultivated there in the Odobesti area as well as in Bulgaria. In 2016, 26 hectares of vines were recorded (Kym Anderson).
