The red grape variety is a new cross between Băbească Neagră x Cabernet Sauvignon. DNA analyses carried out in 2013 revealed that the Fetească Neagră listed as the father variety in the breeding list was incorrect. The cross was made in Romania by the breeders Gh. Popescu, M. Baditescu and M. Oslobeanu. It is grown there in the Odobesti area and in small quantities also in Bulgaria. In 2016, 26 hectares of vineyard were designated (Kym Anderson).
