Cividìn

The white grape variety originates from the border region Italy (Gorizia)-Slovenia (Goricia). Synonyms are Cividìn Bianco, Cividìno and Cividìno del Friuli. The parentage is unknown. It was found in the 1980s by winemaker Emilio Bulfon in the municipality of Pinzano al Tagliamento (province of Pordenone, Friuli Venezia Giulia region) together with other varieties and revived with the help of ampelographers Antonio Calò and Ruggero Forti. The late-ripening vine is resistant to grape rot, but susceptible to powdery mildew. It yields spicy, aromatic white wines with moderate acidity. The variety is grown in the two municipalities of Castelnovo di Friuli and Pinzano al Tagliamento. In 2016, four hectares of vineyards were designated (Kym Anderson statistics).
