The Italian-American Francis Ford Coppola (*1939) became famous as the director of classics such as "The Godfather" and "Apocalypse Now" and is one of the most important filmmakers in the USA. Due to the great financial success of "The Godfather", he bought the historic Inglenook Winery in Rutherford in Napa Valley in 1975 and thus entered the wine business. In 2006, Coppola acquired Château Souverain in Geyserville in Sonoma County and named the business "Francis Ford Coppola Winery" (now owned by Delicato Family Wines). He brought his great passion for cinema to the architectural design of the facility, which was completed in 2010. Cinematic effects play a key role in the architecture throughout the entire facility, and the Virginia Dare Winery in Sonoma County and Domaine de Broglie in the Willamette Valley in Oregon were later purchased.
