Château Lanessan

The vineyard is located in the municipality of Cussac-Fort Médoc(Bordeaux). It was last classified as a Cru Bourgeois Superieur in 2003 in the Bordeaux classification according to the old system, which is no longer valid. The documented origins of the estate date back to 1310, when a Madame Paironne la Montagne, widow of the eponymous Henry de Lanessan, sold the property with a vineyard to a Monsieur de Blaignan. In 1793, it became the property of the Delbos family, whose name was changed to Bouteiller in 1909 through marriage.

On the occasion of the famous Bordeaux classification in 1855, a sample was not sent in because this evaluation was not taken seriously. The estate has been managed by Hubert Bouteiller since 1961. It also owns the two wine estates Château Lachesnaye and Château de Sainte Gemme. A carriage museum in the former stables is well worth a visit. According to Robert Parker, the wine would deserve at least fifth place (Cinquième Grand Cru Classé). The vineyards cover 40 hectares of vines with Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Merlot (30%), Petit Verdot (5%) and Cabernet Franc (5%). The long-lasting red wine matures for 16 to 18 months in barriques. The second wine is called "Les Calèches de Lanessan".

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
