The vineyard is located in the municipality of Lugon in the Médoc(Bordeaux), directly opposite Château Cantemerle. An estate called "Grand La Lagune" with an owner family Seguineau is mentioned at the end of the 17th century. In the 1855 Bordeaux classification, the estate was awarded third place (Troisième Grand Cru Classé) under its former name of Lalagune. After many changes of ownership, the neglected estate, which had shrunk to four hectares, was bought by Georges Brunet in 1957. He merged it with Château Petit La Lagune under its current name. In 1961, it was acquired by the Ayala champagne house. The vineyards were extended and a new fermentation cellar was built. Finally, in 2000, the Frey family acquired Ayala and with it Château La Lagune (Ayala was sold to Bollinger in 2005). The vineyards cover 80 hectares and are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Merlot (30%) and Petit Verdot (10%). The long-lasting red wine is matured for 18 months in 50% new barriques. The second wine has been called "Moulin de La Lagune" since 1998 (previously "Château Ludon-Pomiès-Agassac").
