The red grape variety is a new breed between Kadarka x Muscat Bouschet. It was crossed in Hungary in 1948 by the breeder Pál Kozma. The late maturing vine is susceptible to botrytis and sensitive to winter frost. It produces dark, acidic red wines, which are mainly used as colour-enhancing blends. The variety is grown in the Eger, Kunság, Mátraalja and Szekszárd areas. In 2016, a total of 109 hectares were recorded in Hungary with a decreasing trend (statistics Kym Anderson).
