Californian winery owner and viticulture expert David Abreu studied viticulture and cellar management at the University of California at Davis. In 1980, together with winemaker friend Richard Forman, he founded the "Vineyard Management Company", which specialises in planting and maintaining vineyards. The two also took over the management of the Inglenook Winery. Together with Forman, Abreu travelled to Bordeaux several times to study the viticultural techniques there. Among the customers are many renowned Californian wineries such as Araujo, Bressler Vineyards, Bryant Family, Colgin Cellars, Grace Family, Harlan Estate, Pahlmeyer, Screaming Eagle and Sloan Estate. The success of the measures is virtually pre-programmed. David Abreu also farms his own vineyards in St. Helena in California's Napa Valley under "Abreu Vineyards". These are Madrona Ranch, Thorevilos and Campella. The Madrona Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon vintage 1997 received 100 points from Robert Parker. See also under Advisors.
The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
