Californian winery owner, viticulture expert and consultant David Abreu studied viticulture and cellar management at the University of California in Davis. In 1980 he founded the Vineyard Management Company together with his winemaker friend Richard Forman, which specializes in the creation and maintenance of vineyards. Together with Forman, Abreu travelled to Bordeaux several times to study the winegrowing techniques there. Their clients include many renowned Californian wineries such as Araujo, Bressler, Bryant Family, Colgin, Grace Family, Harlan Estate, Pahlmeyer and Screaming Eagle. The success of the measures is virtually pre-programmed with high financial expenditure. Abreu also cultivates its own vineyards in St. Helena in California's Napa Valley. These are Madrona Ranch, Thorevilos and Campella. The Madrona Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon 1997 received 100 points from Robert Parker.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
