The island of Aruba with its capital Oranjestad covers 179 km². It is one of the three ABC islands (Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao), which geographically belong to North America and are part of the Lesser Antilles in the southern Caribbean. It lies 25 km north of Venezuela. Along with Curaçao and Sint Maarten, as well as the Netherlands (comprising the Netherlands in Europe as well as Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba in the Caribbean), it is one of the four equal countries of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The head of state is the monarch, represented by a governor.
On the island, the only winery is the Alto Vista Winery, operated in a sustainability manner. The family business is run by David Kock. Due to the desert climate, agriculture and viticulture are very challenging. The varieties Chenin Blanc, Colombard, Syrah, and Tempranillo are cultivated. The product range includes a fortified wine in the Port wine, a Rosé, a White wine, and a Red wine, as well as a Rum (sugar cane) from its own distillation. A tour through the vineyards with subsequent wine tasting is also offered.
The wein.plus encyclopaedia is a comprehensive, well-researched reference work. Available anytime and anywhere, it has become an indispensable part of teaching, used by students and myself alike. Highly recommended!
