The white grape variety comes from Cyprus. Synonyms are Aspro, Aspro Ampelissimo, Aspro Kyprou, Cipro Bianco, Halili, Halili Blanc, Hebron, Hebron Blanc, Hebron White, Hibron Blanc, Khalili, Khebroni, Koumantaria, Lefko Kyprou, Lefko Kyproy, Local White, Topiko Aspro, White Xynisteri, Xinisteri, Xynistera, Xynisteri Aspro Kyprou. It must not be confused with the varieties Aspro or Savatiano (Aspro), in spite of apparently indicative synonyms or morphological similarities. However, the parentage (parenthood) is unknown. According to the French ampelographer Pierre Galet (1921-2019) it is said to be identical with the Israeli variety Zitania, which would also explain the Hebron synonyms.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
