DOCG area for red spumante in the Italian Marche region. The DOC classification, in existence since 1971, was elevated to DOCG in 2003. The zone includes the eponymous municipality of Serrapetrona and partly the municipalities of Belforte del Chienti and San Severino Marche in the province of Macerata. A sparkling wine was already produced here in the 15th century. It is made from slightly dried grapes of the variety Vernaccia Nera = Garnacha Tinta (85%), as well as Sangiovese, Montepulciano and Ciliegiolo (max. 15%) in the two varieties secco and dolce. The designation Vigna (from hilly areas) may be used.
