The red grape variety comes from Greece. Synonyms are Vafissa, Vaphtra, Vapsa, Vautra and Vavtra. The parentage (parenthood) is unknown. It yields dark-coloured red wines and is mainly used as Teinturier (dyer grape). The variety is cultivated on Antiparos, a neighbouring island of Paros. However, no stock was reported in 2010 (statistics Kym Anderson).
