The red grape variety originates from Portugal. Synonyms are Tinta Baldossa and Valdosa. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2020, it comes from a presumably natural cross between Marufo x Cornifesto. It is grown in small quantities in the Centro and Norte regions. In 2016, 0.6 hectares of vines were reported (Kym Anderson statistics).
