Tămâioasă

Part of the name used in Romania for various grape varieties in the berry colours black, blue, red, yellow and white, which for the most part names various Muscat varieties with the corresponding addition. The old spelling Tamîioasa (the "î" corresponds to the "ü", after the Romanian spelling reform it is now written "â" instead, i.e. "Tămâioasă"). It means "incense" and refers to the aromatic smell and taste. In the Wine lexicon, the new spelling Tamâioasa is used. Tămâioasă is also a synonym for the grape variety Muscat Blanc.
