Local, Austrian wine speciality from the well-known wine village Gumpoldskirchen (near Wien) in the wine-growing region Thermenregion in the province of Lower Austria. The cuvée is blended from the two white autochthonous grape varieties Rotgipfler (for alcohol content and volume) and Zierfandler (also "Spätroter", which is where the first part of the name comes from, for backbone and finesse). The powerful wine with an asparagus bouquet is often produced in the Prädikatswein range and has an excellent storage life.
The wein.plus encyclopaedia is a comprehensive, well-researched reference work. Available anytime and anywhere, it has become an indispensable part of teaching, used by students and myself alike. Highly recommended!
