The Babylonian goddess of wine (also Šiduri Sabitu, Shiduri) is also considered the patron saint of beer brewers and publicans. She is equated with Ishtar, the goddess of Mesopotamia. The name means "she is my protection" or "young woman". She runs a tavern in the afterlife and is the guardian of a vineyard. Her best-known role is as a wise counsellor in the Gilgamesh epic, where she acts as an advocate of appreciation the pleasures of the world. When Gilgamesh, the king of Uruk, enters the realm of the sun in search of the meaning of life, he discovers an enchanted vineyard whose wine could finally grant him immortality. But Šiduri refuses to let him enjoy it because, as a human being, he is mortal and that is inevitable. However, she consoles him as follows:
