The white grape variety originates from France. Although it has slight morphological differences in its leaves and shoots compared to Chardonnay, it has an identical DNA profile. Morillon can be described as a variety or clone of Chardonnay. It is listed in the VIVC catalogue as an independent variety with the synonyms Alp Raisin and Raisin d'Alep. In Austrian Styria, Chardonnay is traditionally referred to as Morillon and is still considered an independent variety there in some cases.
