Producer

Designation for a winery or business that processes grapes from its own vineyards within the meaning of the wine law and produces wine from them. This also includes winegrowers' cooperatives, which are considered producer associations. On the label, however, designations indicating an agricultural enterprise such as vintner or winery may only be used in the case of Landwein (PGI) or Qualitätswein (PDO) and only if the wine was produced in a company's own cellar from grapes from the company's own farmland. However, the producer does not have to be identical with the bottler. If this is the case, the label may state Erzeugerabfüllung (producer bott ling). Smaller producers in particular very often market their products directly to the end consumer through so-called farm-gate sales with prior wine tasting.
