Previous year's wine

General but not precisely specified term for an "older" wine. In any case, this means a wine before the current vintage. In Austria this is colloquially also called "Alter" and for the current vintage Heuriger is common. As a rule, however, the term "Altwein" is usually used to describe significantly older vintages that are several years (decades) old. See also young wine and special wines.
