The white grape variety (breeding no. Geisenheim 8622-3) is a new cross between Merzling x Geisenheim 7743-12 (Riesling clone 239 GM x GM 6495-1). The cross was made in 1986 at the Institute for Grapevine Breeding in Geisenheim and was officially approved by the Federal Office of Plant Varieties in 2021. The late-maturing PIWIPIWI variety is resistant to powdery and downy mildew and also has a low susceptibility to botrytis. It yields neutral, finely fruity white wines similar in taste to Riesling. No stocks have been identified yet.
There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
