Wine brotherhoods are usually non-profit associations or communities whose members are united by a shared love of wine. There are certainly many thousands of wine brotherhoods around the world. The International Federation of Wine Brotherhoods (Fédération Internationale des Confréries Bachiques, FICB) has over 100 member brotherhoods from various countries. They promote wine culture and contribute to the preservation of wine traditions.

The largest wine brotherhood in Germany is the "Weinbruderschaft der Pfalz", founded in 1954. This brotherhood has over 1,000 members, making it the largest of the 50 or so wine brotherhoods in Germany. The motto of this brotherhood is IN VITE VITA (In the vine, life).
