mouldy

As a rule, a negative term for the taste or smell of a wine in the context of a wine evaluation or wine address. This usually refers to a wine defect such as cork taint (also muffton) or mousse. A related term is earthy, but this should be understood positively. Typically, poorly ventilated, damp wine cellars smell mouldy, which is mostly due to the presence of mould.
