This designation for single vineyards is usually derived from walls that surround the vineyards or at least parts of them. These usually serve as protection against winds and animal pests.
The south-southwest facing vineyards with slopes of 10 to 22% are situated at an altitude of 110 to 120 metres above sea level. They cover 32 hectares of vineyards lined with walls that keep out the cold winds and also store heat. The soils consist of deep, chalky loess, in the border area to the Fuchsberg vineyard also of marl. This enables deep rooting of the vines. The Riesling variety is mainly cultivated here. The Freimuth Alexander, Geisenheim and George wineries, for example, have shares in the site.
For my many years of work as an editor with a wine and culinary focus, I always like to inform myself about special questions at Wine lexicon. Spontaneous reading and following links often leads to exciting discoveries in the wide world of wine.
