Katasterlage

Smallest geographical unit of vineyard area in Germany with origin-protected status. The wine law term Katasterlage is defined in the same way as single vineyard (the next largest wine law area unit), but with a slightly different status. The origin of each cadastral site is always a Gewann, but by no means all of the many hundreds of Gewanne are classified as cadastral sites. In the course of the land consolidation in 1971, many such small units were combined into one single vineyard. The areas and the cadastral sites classified from them are often characterised by a particular microclimate and soil or site-specific character. The picture shows the single vineyard Eselshaut in the municipality of Mußbach ( Pfalz wine-growing region) with the three cadastral vineyards Am Rothenstein, Beim Steinernen Bild and Dreißig Morgen.
