The red grape variety (also Burr 1 or Burr's Early) is an open-pollinated seedling of Delaware. It contains genes from Vitis aestivalis, Vitis labrusca and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was selected in the USA in 1874 by private breeder John Burr (as was the Magnate variety). The variety became very popular in some US states at the beginning of the 20th century. In 2016, however, no stock was reported (statistics Kym Anderson).
For my many years of work as an editor with a wine and culinary focus, I always like to inform myself about special questions at Wine lexicon. Spontaneous reading and following links often leads to exciting discoveries in the wide world of wine.
