Hochrain

Common name for vineyards (sites) in German-speaking countries. In Austria there are a total of 8 vineyards with this name. It is derived from "high" (elevated location) and "rain" (slope edge, edge of the terrain).

Engelmannsbrunn (Kirchberg) - Wagram(Lower Austria)

The south-south-west facing vineyards cover 21 hectares of vines at 220 to 248 metres above sea level with a slope of 0° to 35°. One of the last vineyard huts has been preserved here. The soils consist of gravel and crushed stone and are formed as silty black earth. They are deep, calcareous and medium-humic and have a good water retention capacity in generally dry conditions. The Grüner Veltliner variety dominates with 11 hectares of vines. Other varieties are Zweigelt, Riesling and Müller-Thurgau.
