The southern part of the French Médoc region, which is also defined as a separate appellation with 5,200 hectares of vineyards (the northern part is called Bas-Médoc) Six famous villages form their own municipal appellations within Haut-Médoc. These are Margaux, Moulis, Listrac-Médoc, Pauillac, Saint-Estèphe and Saint-Julien.
