gris

French term for grey, drunk or cloudy. In viticulture, it refers to the colour of grapes, but not the classic "grey". Rather, it is a reddish to grey tone as in Pinot Gris (pictured below), which also refers to the somewhat cloudy (unclear) colour. A German term is "weingrau". Light red pressed rosé wines are called vin gris in France, almost white pressed ones are called gris de gris. Gris is also a common component in the name of such grape varieties as Grenache Gris (Garnacha Roja) and Pinot Gris.
