The red grape variety originates from the border region Italy (Gorizia)-Slovenia (Goricia). In the 1980s, it was found and revived by winemaker Emilio Bulfon in the province of Pordenone in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, together with other varieties. The vine is susceptible to powdery mildew. It yields fruity red wines with soft tannins and aromas of herbs, toasted almonds, red fruits and vanilla. It is grown in the municipalities of Castelnovo di Friuli and Pinzano al Tagliamento. In 2016, three hectares of vines were designated (Kym Anderson).
