The vineyard is located in the municipality of Léognan in the Pessac-Léognan area of Graves(Bordeaux). Its origins date back to the 15th century. An earlier name was "La Rivette", from which the current name is derived. There is no connection to the famous Château Haut-Brion, but the Haut-Brion part of the name refers to the local term used here for the frequently occurring gravel soil. After changing hands several times, the estate was sold by the Guillemaud family to the current owner Philippe Gervorson in 1987.

At the time of the Graves classification in 1953, the estate hardly played a role, so it was not taken into account. The vineyards cover 50 hectares, of which 45 hectares are planted half each with the red wine varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and five hectares with the white wine varieties Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle. The long-lasting red wine is matured for 18 months in up to 70% new barriques. The white wine also matures for 12 months in oak barrels. The second wines (red, white) are called "Les Demoiselles de Larrivet-Haut-Brion".
