The winery is located in the commune of Ludon-Médoc in the Haut-Médoc region (Bordeaux) on the border with the Margaux communal appellation. It was last classified as a Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel in the Bordeaux classification in 2020. The traditional, romantic château is a medieval building located deep in the forest with a moat, which is also depicted on the label. Its origins date back to the 11th century. From the mid-1970s, it was owned by the Gasqueton family. In 1996, it was bought by the insurance company Groupama Assurances. The company invested large sums in the renovation of the château and the cellar facilities and hired the young Alsatian oenologist Jean-Luc Zell. The use of new barriques was reduced and the fruitiness of the wines was emphasised.
The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
