The winery is located in the municipality of Grézillac in the Entre-deux-Mers area south of Saint-Émilion(Bordeaux). Its origins date back to the 18th century, when the château also dates back. In 1877, it was taken over by Léonce Récapet (1858-1943), who had made a fortune with the production of liqueurs. In the 1950s, the property passed to his descendants. In 1956, his maternal grandson André Lurton (1924-2019) took over the business, which had 30 hectares of vines at the time, and continuously expanded it.

Château Bonnet is the headquarters of the "Vignobles André Lurton" group, which was founded in 1988. After the death of André Lurton in 2019, his son Jacques Lurton took over the presidency of the group. In 2022, his niece Mathilde de Caix-Lurton (fifth generation) joined the management team.
