Brown white Veltliner

This white grape variety comes from Austria. It belongs to the large Veltliner group. The name is derived from the brownish-grey berries. Synonyms are Bachovichka Belina, Brauner Veltliner, Gelbling, Todträger and Wachler. In the Vivc catalogue there is also an independent variety Brauner Veltliner. According to a DNA analysis carried out by Dr. Ferdinand Regner in 1996, Braunweiß Veltliner is a mutation of Roter Veltliner. However, the Swiss biologist Dr. José Vouillamoz doubts this, but confusingly refers to Brauner Veltliner (in Wine Grapes). Brauner Veltliner, in turn, is also a synonym for the Moldovan variety Tigvoasa. Nothing is known about possible relationships between these varieties.
