Beringer Blass

The origins of the Australian wine multinational Treasury Wine Estates (one of the largest in the world ) lie in the founding of a number of historically significant wineries. These were Lindeman's (founded in 1843) and Penfolds (founded 1844) in Australia, as well as Beringer Vineyards (founded in 1876) in California's Napa Valley (see there in each case). More recently, the German-born oenologist Wolfgang Blass (*1934) should also be mentioned. He emigrated to Australia's Barossa Valley in 1961 and established himself in 1966 with the winery Wolf Blass Wines winery in 1966. He subsequently built up an empire. In 1986, he acquired 50% of the Australian Bottling Company, including the sparkling wine production. The merger with the Mildara Group in the Coonawarra region in 1991 created the company Mildara Blass with over a dozen Australian wineries and cellars.
