Beringer Blass

The origins of the Australian wine multinational, which is now one of the largest in the world, lie in the founding of a number of historically important wineries. These were mainly Lindeman's 1843 and Penfolds 1844 in Australia, and Beringer 1876 in California's Napa Valley (see there). For more recent times, the German-born oenologist Wolfgang Blass (*1934) must also be mentioned. He emigrated to Australia's Barossa Valley in 1961 and went into business for himself in 1966. Wolf Blass Winery self-employed. Subsequently, he built up an empire. In 1986, he acquired 50% of the Australian Bottling Company, including the sparkling wine production. By merging with the Mildara group in the Coonawarra area, the company was created in 1991. Mildara Blass with a good dozen Australian wineries and cellars.
