Name for the wagon followed by the group of harvest helpers at the festival at the end of the grape harvest (autumn). Each farm decorated its wagon with flowers, vine leaves and ribbons. The procession went from the vineyard to the house, with locally different people such as Herbstmuck or Herbstschmüerel playing a jocular role. The custom of the Herbstwagen, which is cultivated in many wine-growing regions of Germany and Austria, is one of the few old customs that have survived.
