A term used especially in southern Germany not only for the season, but also for the grape harvest, the wine yield and the harvest in general. Hierscht is common in Luxembourg and Herbscht in Lorraine. In viticulture, numerous terms are derived from this, such as Herbsten (harvests), Herbstbann (autumn ban), Herbstbuch (cellar book), Herbstkurier (autumn courier), Herbstmuck (autumn jewellery), Herbstordnung (autumn order), Herbstschmüerel (autumn smithy ) and Herbstwagen (autumn wagon ). Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
