The American breeder Charles Arnold created a number of new varieties in the middle of the 19th century. These were, for example, the varieties Autuchon (Arnold 5), Brant (Arnold 8), Canada (Arnold 16), Cornucopia (Arnold 2) and Othello (Arnold 1). The wild vine Vitis cinerea Arnold is also named after him.
The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
