Name for a special wine from Rüdesheim in the RheingauRheingau from the year 1727. According to old sources, this was an exceptional vintage in Germany, both in terms of quality and quantity. A wine from this year is stored in a barrel in the "Bremer Ratskeller" in the so-called "Zwölfapostelkeller" (since 2005, the Bremen Town Hall with its Ratskeller has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site). Since at that time the vineyards were mainly planted with mixed grape varieties, we are probably dealing with different grape varieties. The main grape variety is probably Gelber Orléans. On special occasions, wine is bottled from it and labelled. After the wine is taken out, the barrel is refilled with current Rüdesheim wine, so that over the centuries it does contain a certain amount of "younger" wine. The older the bottled wine, the closer it comes to the original and the more valuable it is.
The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
