Wildbacher

The red grape variety originates from Austria. There are 40 synonyms, the most important being Blauer Greutler, Blauer Kracher, Blauer Kräutler, Dioljak, Echter Blauer Wildbacher, Großes Mauserl, Mali Zherni, Mauserl, Melbertraube, Mittelblauer, Schilcher, Schilchertraube, Schillertraube, Schlehenblauer, Vranek and Wildbacher. According to an unverifiable hypothesis, the Celts are said to have already pressed a wine from the wild grape in the area of today's Styria in 400 BC. In the 19th century, some ampelographers suspected that it was domesticated directly from wild gra pevines.
