The white grape variety originates from Italy. The variety was first mentioned in 1754 by the priest Aureliano Acanti in his work "Il Roccolo Ditirambo" (a collection of poems dedicated to wine and the landscape of the Veneto region).
The ancestry (parentage) is unknown. It should not be confused with the varieties Verdeca (with the synonym Verdisco) or Verdicchio Bianco (with the synonym Peverenda) due to partly similar synonyms or morphological similarities. Direct descendants are the new varieties Flavis, Italica and Sirio.
