IGT area (land wines) for white, red and rosé wines in the Italian region of Apulia. The area covers 40 hectares of vineyards in the municipalities of Alberobello and Locorotondo in the province of Bari; Ceglie Messapico, Cisternino, Fasano and Ostuni in the province of Brindisi; and Crispiano and Martina Franca in the province of Taranto on the Salento peninsula. The Valle d'Itria is known as the "Valley of the Trulli", the name of the traditional round houses. Grape varieties permitted in the region may be used. Varietal wines must contain at least 85% of the variety in question. Dual varietal wines must be blended from 50 to 85% of the main grape variety, plus 15 to 50% of other grape varieties. For the wines, a minimum alcohol content is prescribed for each wine type, but no ageing periods.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
