IGT (Land wines)area for white, red and rosé wines in the Italian region of Puglia. Salento is the name for the 100 km long and 40 km wide peninsula with the provinces of Brindisi, Lecce and Taranto, which forms the heel of the boot. The area covers 11,600 hectares of vineyards. Grape varieties authorised in the region may be used. Varietal wines must contain at least 85% of the variety in question, up to 15% may be other varieties. Dual-varietal wines must be blended from at least 50 to 85% of the main grape variety and 15 to a maximum of 50% of other varieties. For the wines, a minimum alcohol content is prescribed for each wine type, but no maturation periods.
