The winery is located in the municipality of Freiburg (Breisgau area) in the German wine-growing region of Baden. It was founded in 1997 as "Staatsweingut Freiburg & Blankenhornsberg Freiburg" and is affiliated to the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Food and Rural Areas (a so-called wine-growing domain). However, its origins date back to 1842. The farm serves as an experimental estate for the scientists of the Freiburg Institute. The purpose of the estate is to further strengthen the competitiveness of the local wine industry through research and development and to help shape the future of viticulture. The estate building is located in the centre of the Blankenhornsberger Doktorgarten site. Bernhard Huber and Kolja Bitzenhofer are the managing directors, while Mr Isele and Mr Scheffelt are the cellar masters.
For my many years of work as an editor with a wine and culinary focus, I always like to inform myself about special questions at Wine lexicon. Spontaneous reading and following links often leads to exciting discoveries in the wide world of wine.
