Designation (also Souverain) of an oversized bottle for champagne with the volume of 35 standard bottles (0.75 l each = 26.25 litres). However, the name is not origin-protected, but can be used freely for sparkling wines or still wines. One such bottle was created by the champagne house Taittinger for the christening of the largest cruise ship in the world - the "Sovereign of the Seas". There is also a Sovereign with 50 litres (~67 bottles).
See lists under bottles (all formats) and wine vessels (all types, from antiquity to the present day).

Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
