Rustenberg

The winery "Rustenberg Wines" is located at the foot of the Simonsberg in the South African wine district of Stellenbosch. The estate, set in a park-like landscape, is considered one of the most beautiful in South Africa. The winery was founded over 300 years ago and has grown over time from three historic estates. The today independent Stellenzicht Winery was once part of it. The total area comprises 1,200 hectares of mostly meadows and pasture land, 160 hectares of which are planted with vines. The vineyards are located at the foot and on the slopes of the Simonsberg. From 1940 Peter Barlow built it up and his son Simon is the current owner. In the 1990s, the estate was completely renovated and a high-tech winery was built (in the former cowshed). Two buildings are listed as historical monuments. Premium wines are the Cabernet Sauvignon "Peter Barlow" (20 months in barrique), the Chardonny "Five Soldiers" (12 months in barrique) and the Bordeaux blend "Rustenberg". The second line is called "Brampton" with pure varietal wines. Around 550,000 bottles of wine are produced annually.
