Stellenzicht

The winery "Stellenzicht Vineyards" is located on the Helderberg in the South African wine district of Stellenbosch. The name means "view of Stellenbosch". It was founded in 1692 and was once part of the Rustenberg Winery. Since 1981 it has been owned by the German ex-banker Hans-Joachim Schreiber (Lusan Holding), as well as the sister estate Neethlingshof Estate since 1985. Viticulture pioneer Günter Brözel played a decisive role in the rebuilding of the estate. Today, Guy Webber is the responsible cellar master. Here it is somewhat cooler than in the rest of the Stellenbosch area, so that only a small amount of artificial irrigation is required. The total estate covers 230 hectares on the slopes of the Helderberg between the city of Stellenbosch and the Atlantic Ocean. The vineyard area is 128 hectares, of which about 80 are planted. The varieties cultivated are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Malbec, Merlot, Pinotage, Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Shiraz (Riesling no longer). Figureheads are the Bordeaux blend "Stellenzicht", the cuvée "Rhapsody" (Pinotage, Shiraz), the Shiraz and the Sémillon Reserve. A second line is called "Golden Triangle" with single-variety wines. About 32,000 cases of these wines are produced annually. There is also the cheaper "Hill&Dale" line made from grapes bought in from the Stellenbosch area.
