The red grape variety comes from Italy. Synonyms are Rossara Gentile, Ross Ciàr, Rossera and Varenzasca. The name refers to the possible place of origin Trentino, as well as the reddish berries. It must not be confused with the Rossara or Rossola Nera varieties, despite the fact that the synonyms or morphological similarities seem to indicate this. There is also no connection to any of the many Schiava varieties (Vernatsch)....
The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
