Perlan

Name commonly used in the Swiss canton of Geneva for the wine made from the Chasselas variety. The origin of the name is not clearly documented. There is probably a connection to the French "perle" (pearl). The term was traditionally used mainly in the Mandement wine-growing region of Geneva and was also used as a designation of origin. Today, it is a historical or local name with no great practical significance and is rarely used. Perlan corresponds to the term Dorin in the canton of Vaud. In contrast, Fendant is protected under wine law as a designation for Chasselas in the canton of Valais.
