The red grape variety originates from Italy. Synonyms are Duracino, Occhialina, Pignoca, Pignola di San Colombano, Pignul, Pignuola, Pignuolo, Rognosa, Schiettarola Nera, Spampignolo and Uva Pignola di San Colombano.
